Tom Beach

What did you do after Athens?
I married Sue (Berry) and moved back to Mt Vernon where in 75 we taught in the schools and Eric was born in 75.

Family:
Sue and I were divorced in 77 and I remarried (twice). Now, my wife (Lori) and I still live in a log house we built near Kenyon College and have a “foster” daughter, 17. She is an administrator in the Mt. Vernon system and can retire in 4 years. We plan to build a house up in the mountains near Blackhawk, Colorado. Lori has her Ed. D

Career
I got a position at the Middle school there teaching 8th grade American History. I also coached basketball (believe it or not) and football (American) for 14 years in the system. I then started a ski club in the school and began teaching skiing at Snow Trails near Mansfield. In 83 we started a HS soccer program for bys and I became the first head coach there. 12 years later I resigned and began refereeing. Then, we began a girl’s soccer team and again I was the head coach until I retired after 30 years. I substitute frequently in the school now in 6th to 12 grade. I also spend as much time as I can at our “cabin” just West of Boulder, Colorado. I also teach skiing out there.

Additional education
I thought I knew it all when I left OU!!!

Residences/locations since Athens, Ohio
I built a log home in 83 and have lived there since. We also have a small house near Blackhawk, Colorado, and 2 acres on top of a mountain near there that we hope to build another log home on when Lori retires.

Recreation/hobbies (soccer?) I still have a motorcycle and still am in soccer games although I now referee HS and youth games. I am a level 3 certified ski instructor and teach in Colorado when I’m out there.

Significant events
Son (Eric born in 75) Married again 83 to Lori. Coached a lot of great kids and I get to ski pretty much anywhere!
