Larry Cohen What did you after Athens? After reading some of the bios I am embarrassed of how boring I really am. I graduated in December after the great season where we advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. I went to work in a TV repair shop for my future father-in-law. I’m not telling anymore about that. I got married to Wendy on July 7,1973, two days after my 22nd birthday – sad huh! We moved to Yeadon, PA and then to Wyncote, PA where we still live waiting for next year, which will be the 100th birthday of our house. Went to University of Pennsylvania Dental School – probably got in because of the research I did in the biology dept at OU – dissecting mosquitoes – published in a Entomology journal. Spent 4 years learning my trade, studying all the time. Did fairly well I guess because I graduated and went to work in an inner city clinic in Philadelphia. Worked there for a couple of years and took my wife’s and my families out with my first paycheck – 400 bucks for two weeks work. I then went to work for a big dental concern who had nine offices and I was the overseer and top producer but they weren’t interested in a partner so I moved on and bought a building and opened my own practice – that was fun waiting for the patients to show up. The practice finally grew and I was doing very well as my accountant would tell me so I decided to buy a bigger building and make the office three times the size. This was a great move financially but it was such a headache going from a nice small rural office with three employees to a giant office with 10 employees. I have had the thing well under control for a while and have sold half the practice to a “youngin” to help me ease my way out. I am still working three days a week, sometimes. When my patients come in they ask “where are you off to next doc”. We have spent our share of time traveling the world to such places as China, Italy, South Dakota, Paris, Amsterdam, and a lot of sailing in the BVI and parts south. I have spent a lot of time attending continuing education classes and have become a practitioner that is sought after by many patients because we deal with all phases of dentistry from routine stuff to complicated implant surgical procedures to complex restorative cases. In between all the work I have built a beautiful family with my wife Wendy. I have a 28 year old son who after graduation from University of Colorado told us that he always wanted to be a chef. Why he couldn’t tell me before we paid for four years of college and now had to pay for 18 months of culinary school I will not go into. Jared is now the executive chef at Dazzles, a jazz club in downtown Denver, Colorado. He has finally settled there after spending time in Boulder, then onto St Thomas USVI and then to Boca Raton, FL and then to Pasadena, Ca. Jordan is my shining star. She is a lovely, beautiful 24 yo who just got married on the second Sunday in September – 9/11 to Johan Harvey who is from Malaysia via Austrailia where she met him while doing a semester abroad. The last thing I told her before she got on that plane was ‘don’ fall in love”. So I am the father of a bride and a father-in-law. Jordan and Johan will be moving to Savannah where she will be going to get her Masters in Furniture Design( I may have her call you Gary). Wendy and I are still best friends and lovers. We spend a lot of time (four day weekends all summer) on our sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay on the Eastern shore across from Annapolis, MD. I am also involved in a sailboat racing club where we have 6 J-27 boats. I am a racing skipper and teacher. In May of this year I had a great adventure sailing from Tortola, BVI to Annapolis, MD. The trip took nine days and we were slammed by the Mother’s Day Storm with 60 knot winds and 30 foot seas. Quite an experience. I am an avid golfer that that could be pretty good if I could find the time to play. I am looking forward to retirement so I can hone my golf skills three days a week and sail 4 days a week. We also enjoy our second home in St Thomas USVI, which is located on the beach on the eastern end of the island on Cabrita Point. We have a website at www.casa-b.com if anyone is interested. We vacation there for 6 weeks in January/February and two more weeks during the year and rent it to help defray costs when we aren’t there. We are in the process of putting the final details on a trip to Africa and sailing in the Seychelles for three weeks in November. I am very excited that you guys are getting together and jealous that I am unable to be there due to previous engagements – not sailing Contact
